Recap - 2022 Sangamon Cycling Series
2022 marked the second year for the SBC's newest program --- the Sangamon Cycling Series (SCS). This program, consisting of four rides beginning in May and finishing in August, has proven to be quite popular with all levels of riders. It is open to all riders, SBC member or not. The rides start at different Springfield parks and explore road routes in Sangamon County and the surrounding area. Route distances ranged from 30 to 100 miles, with the 62 mile metric century coming in as the most popular distance.
A total of 137 riders registered for this year's program. They hailed primarily from Springfield and the surrounding area, but we had some registrants from Bloomington, Peoria and Godfrey.
Routes were staged so that the starting location also served as a rest stop. Riders could then restock with water, Gatorade, and an assortment of prepackaged bars, cookies, chips, etc. For the last two rides (Lake Sangcris and Stuart Park), the organizers set up the club's grill and served up walking tacos, which proved to be quite popular.
The program culminated with a happy hour social on August 31st at Harvest Market, where drawings were held for SBC merchandise and $25 bike shop gift certificates. Thanks to all who participated this year! Plans are already in the works for the 2023 Sangamon Cycling Series! |
