Springfield Bicycle Advisory Council - 2021 Bike/Pedestrian Count
If you were biking or walking in Springfield in May and passed somebody scribbling on a clipboard, you made history as part of the first bike/pedestrian count in Springfield. The tabulated results illustrate that Springfield residents take advantage of warm May days to cycle and walk, particularly on Springfield’s bicycle and multi-use trails.
The first-ever bike count was undertaken by the Springfield Bicycle Advisory Council (SBAC) in May to establish a baseline count for people biking or walking in Springfield. More than two dozen volunteers conducted the study at 31 sites around the city, counting people riding bikes and people walking or running, noting the direction of travel and turning actions. The data will be used to help determine future bicycle infrastructure needs.
