A return to Normal?

Troy Gilmore | Published on 6/8/2021

Normal. I used that word in last month’s update. I am not sure that anything will ever truly be “normal” again. I have realized that there is more familiarity in recent life experiences. Two normal things to highlight in this brief update are led Club rides and upcoming events. The SBC started led rides again in May after a 14-month hiatus. May also saw the start of the new event, the Sangamon Cycling Series. Normal feels good.

A big thank you to more than 100 riders who have registered for the Sangamon Cycling Series. If you have not checked it out, go to the website (www.spfldcycling.org) and learn more about it. Briefly, through a small registration fee, you receive four events (May, June, July, August) and four route distances for each event, an SBC t-shirt, and the chance to win a local bike shop gift certificate for completing one ride at each event. If you have registered and your friends have not, get them on board and ride sometime during the nine-day window. The first Saturday and last Sunday of the events there will be two rest stops stocked with water and other simple nutrition and snacks. If you, or a family member, can help at a rest stop, provide snacks or water, or lead a ride during this Series, let me know.

Here is an event that you might want to start planning for now. On Saturday, June 26 at Stuart Park from 8:00-10:00 a.m. there will be a “trunk” sale. Gather all that extra cycling stuff you have lying around and make some money with it! Set-up and buy/sell/trade items from your trunk or under one of the pavilions at the Park. We will sell/buy items from 8:00-10:00, then ride at 10:00. The route will be to be announced but will likely be 35-40 miles. Be sure to check out the ride schedule for a full listing of all the group rides and activities this month.

Wave to me if we meet on the road or trail.
